EDPAM LAUDS DEALCO FARM’S WATER TREATMENT FACILITY ANGELES CITY – “This is one big step in reviving Sapang Balen and the natural environment.”This was the reaction of Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan after his inspection on the Waste Water Treatment Facility of the newly-inaugurated Angeles City Slaughterhouse. The slaughterhouse has been criticized by environmentalists and church leaders like Auxilliary Bishop Pablo Virgilio David for its poor sanitation and for being a contributor to the toxic wastes flowing in the forsaken creek.“I hope this development will be emulated by other private firms as well,” Bishop David said in his homily when he officiated the mass during the facility’s inauguration last week. The city’s abattoir leased by Dealco Farms, Inc., rebuilt the P2M facility as they considered the call from the new city government and Bishop David. At zero cost to the city government, Dealco converted the dilapidated and unsanitary abattoir into a hygienic, professionally managed meat plant. The country’s biggest food retailers and processors now confidently get their meat from the renovated abattoir.Pamintuan was relieved by the initial reaction of Bishop David as he inherited the responsibility to revive the natural beauty and cleanliness of Sapang Balen.“I’m happy that Bishop David is satisfied so far with this development but we won’t stop here”, Pamintuan said.Bishop David is the founder of Sagip Sapang Balen which he started more than a year ago wherein they did most of the cleaning operation on the said creek every Saturdays. The project was eventually endorsed to the new city government and Pamintuan sincerely accepted the responsibility, having indicated that one of the top priorities of his administration is zero waste for a healthy environment.Aside from filtering hazardous chemicals, the treatment facility also produces bio-methane gas which can be use for culinary purposes.“I’m very glad that Angeles has a slaughterhouse that is not only capable of delivering quality meat to the business sector but also produces bio-methane gas while filtering the water wastes,” the mayor said. With this first step by the slaughterhouse, the city government will also inspect other establishments which were reported to have contributed to the pollution of the once clear-watered creek.
