ANGELES CITY – Local officials here launched an anti-dengue campaign over the weekend.Acting Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting and City Administrator Dennis Albert Pamintuan started the anti-dengue campaign with a massive cleanup along the streets of San Nicholas, Rizal and Burgos. Councilors and city department heads also brought their brooms and joined the cleanup drive.These streets were usually filled of vendors during Friday also called as the “Apu Day.”According to Cabigting, cleanliness is a way of preventing communicable diseases like dengue."I watched the recent news on TV and I saw MMDA (Metro Manila Development Authority) officials watching over garbage violators. Let us lead by example," Cabigting said.Pamintuan added that cleanliness in the city should be a shared responsibility of officials and the community.“All must be involved in the cleaning,” he said.Cabigting said the cleanup drive will be an every week affair to sustain awareness to the public.Last week, the city health office reported 50 cases of dengue were recorded but no one died from these cases.Before Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan left for Michigan, he instructed city officials to maintain cleanliness around the city.Pamintuan went to America to receive medical donations from the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce.
