ANGELES CITYMayor Edgardo Pamintuan has expressed support on the local police efforts to beef up their armaments and equipments in addressing situations like the recent Luneta hostage-taking which led to the death of eight tourists.

Pamintuan received the ‘wish list’ of additional armaments and other police operational equipments which would be used in crisis situations from City Director P/SSupt Danilo Bautista of the Angeles City Police Office (ACPO).

The list submitted include sniper rifles with scope, sub-machine gun pistols with tactical lights, light machine guns , assorted ammunitions, armor vests, ballistic face masks, gas or chemical masks, ballistic shields, range finders telescope, night vision scope and goggles, sets of rappelling equipment, video cameras, bomb blankets, one SWAT armored van and hydraulic tools and equipment.

“I will personally work this out with the officers concerned in the General Headquarters in Camp Crame to ensure that we have the needed equipments in our city that will help our local police in crisis intervention and management,” Pamintuan said.

The mayor added that the Philippines cannot afford to have a repetition of what transpired in the Manila hostage-crisis as it is not good for both national and local tourism.

The ACPO conducted a police intervention scenario yesterday which showcased the operational readiness of its men and women in responding expeditiously to contingencies in accordance with the law.

Bautista said the presentation is an annual exercise which they conduct in compliance to policy directives from Camp Crame.

“Its aim is to give the public an overview of the basic knowledge, skills, and procedures that the Philippine National Police (PNP) follows in different emergency situations,” Bautista said.

The drill exercise staged at the ACPO headquarters, featured civil disturbance management, anti-insurgency, carnapping and bank robbery scenarios, hostage rescue and explosive demolition.

Part of yesterday’s drill was the creation of a Crisis Management Committee headed by Pamintuan as chairman, Bautista as Ground Commander and P/Supt Gemma Vinluan as chief negotiator.
